About Us
We believe in the good, but we strive for the best. Our strengths are quality, creativity, and craftsmanship. Our foundation is built on organic, ethically produced products. Respect for nature, people, and animals is at the heart of everything we do.
With the vision of creating a place for high-quality, healthy vegetarian cuisine, Christian Halper founded the first TIAN Restaurant in 2011. Since then, TIAN has been dedicated to combining our high standards for exceptional cuisine with our passionate spirit of experimentation. We draw from the diversity of rare and nearly forgotten varieties of vegetables, fruits, and grains, harnessing their distinctive flavors and valuable nutrients.
We source our seasonal ingredients primarily from regional suppliers who understand and uncompromisingly share our commitment to fresh, ethically produced organic food of the highest quality.
The name TIAN is no coincidence. In Chinese, it means “heaven” – fitting, as the restaurant is located on Himmelpfortgasse (“Heaven’s Gate Street”). In French, it refers to a vegetarian stew. And in Tyrol, the homeland of our Chef de Cuisine Paul Ivić, it means “to act, to tackle.” We take that quite literally.
Christian Halper’s and Paul Ivić’s passion for wholesome vegetarian food stems from their past. Fresh harvest on the table every day: what was once a given in their childhood should be the standard again today. With TIAN, they have achieved their long-standing goal: preparing vegetarian food in a way that makes taste buds vibrate and senses come alive.
